How to choose a research peptide supplier

What to check before buying to verify that what you receive is what they say it is.

Why choosing a supplier matters more in this sector

A research peptide is not judged by its label, but by what is really in the vial: which molecule it is, at what purity and from which lot. This is a market with little external oversight —advertising is restricted and almost no one publishes their analyses—, so the burden of proving quality falls on the supplier, and the burden of checking it, on the buyer.

Nothing that follows discusses what a compound is for or how to use it: these products are for in vitro research, not for human consumption. It only covers how to tell whether what you receive is what they say it is.

1. The certificate of analysis (CoA): the document that decides it

The certificate of analysis is the laboratory analysis of a specific lot. It is the only document that connects the vial you receive with a real measurement. A CoA worth having includes, at a minimum:

  • Identity of the compound, confirmed by mass spectrometry and not merely declared. It states which molecule it is.
  • Purity, with the method next to it (usually HPLC). A purity figure without a method is a number with nothing behind it.
  • Lot number, the same one as on the vial you receive. A CoA from another lot does not analyse your product.
  • Date of analysis and the laboratory that signs it.

The practical question: can you see the CoA of the lot you are going to receive, or only a generic sample one? A serious supplier gives you the one for the lot on request.

2. Purity by HPLC: what it means and what it does not

HPLC (high-performance liquid chromatography) separates the contents of the vial into its components and measures what proportion is the peptide you want. It is the sector standard. Two nuances that separate a useful figure from a decorative one:

  • A high purity figure without a method says nothing: relative to what, measured how. If it does not state HPLC (or whatever method), it is a claim, not a measurement.
  • Per lot, not «factory default». Purity is measured on each lot produced. A supplier that measures lot by lot shows it in dated certificates with a lot number; one that always shows the same figure for the whole catalogue is not measuring anything.

3. Traceability: the paperwork must match the vial

Identity, purity and lot only count if they form a chain with no gaps: the vial's lot number appears on the certificate, the certificate is dated and signed by a laboratory, and you can request it before or after buying. If any link is missing —vials without a lot, certificates without a date, an anonymous analyst— the purity figure stops being verifiable.

4. Signs of a supplier you can verify

  • Publishes or provides the certificate of analysis per lot, not a generic PDF.
  • The owner's identity is accessible (legal notice with real details), not an anonymous shop.
  • Is clear about shipping and storage: lyophilised peptides travel better cold, and a supplier that takes care of it says so.
  • Answers a specific technical question (which method, which lot) without evasion.

5. Warning signs

  • A high purity advertised without any certificate to back it up, or only a sample one.
  • Vials without a lot number, or certificates that do not match the lot received.
  • No seller identity: no one to turn to with a complaint.
  • Promises of effects, doses or results. Besides being a sign of an unserious seller, selling these compounds for human use is illegal: a supplier that promotes them that way drags you into the problem too.

How we do it

At EuroPeptiva each lot carries its certificate of analysis with confirmed identity and purity measured by HPLC at an independent laboratory, and you can consult it per lot. The data on each compound —what it is and what has been published about it— are in its sheets, with the references linked and without any efficacy claim.

EuroPeptiva sells material intended exclusively for laboratory research. No product is approved for human, veterinary or diagnostic use.
