Research background
Ipamorelin belongs to the growth hormone secretagogue family: instead of mimicking GHRH, it activates the ghrelin receptor (GHS-R1a) in the pituitary, which is the other route by which GH release is triggered.
What sets it apart from earlier secretagogues such as GHRP-6 or GHRP-2 is selectivity: in published work it raises GH without appreciably dragging along ACTH, cortisol or prolactin. That is why it is often used as a control tool in experiments that need to separate the effect of GH from that of the other hormones the less selective secretagogues move at the same time, and it is commonly seen alongside a GHRH analogue — tesamorelin, CJC-1295 — in designs studying how the two routes interact.
Reconstitution and handling
- Work on a clean surface and disinfect the vial stopper with an alcohol wipe before piercing it.
- Add the bacteriostatic water slowly, letting it run down the inner wall of the vial rather than landing on the powder.
- Do not shake. Swirl the vial gently until the lyophilized powder has fully dissolved: vigorous agitation degrades the peptide.
- The solution should come out clear. If it turns cloudy or shows suspended particles, do not use it.
Storage and stability
- Before reconstitution: refrigerated between 2 and 8 °C, protected from light and moisture.
- After reconstitution: in the fridge and away from light. In solution the peptide lasts far less than as a powder, so it is best used soon.
- Avoid freeze-thaw cycles.
